Skinny Santa says what

A skinny befuddled looking Santa I doodled then colored in GIMP.

Midnight Clear

A tiny demo (about 3"x5") for using a masking agent and salt with watercolor paint for art class. It's some snowy trees.

The proposed cover for the 2013 Yearbook. A black cat (the school mascot is a panther) crossing the path mixed with the year number and the whole 2012 Doomsday thing was the inspiration.

Grim Grinning Ghosts

Steps two and three in the Jack O' Lantern that alas, was not meant to be carved (my pumpkin was too short and squat for it).
The first is isolating the highlights from my initial sketch, the second is inverting them as the carved out negative areas.
Maybe next year.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space

I gave an assignment option for our unit on the concept of line that dealt with the dying art of inking in illustration and animation which is being replaced more and more by digital processes.
After watching an interview with an inking artist about it, the students were to create a pencil drawing to trade with another student to ink each other's work.
Of course only one student chose this option, so they paired with me. I asked them what they wanted to ink and they said a scary clown, which I gave them.
Of course I have now digitally manipulated that pencil drawing, undermining my own assignment.

They're all fantasy type characters so they can do outlandish color schemes and have it still fit.
Also because I'm a bit nerdy and that's what I think is fun to draw.

I'm in the process of updating some old assignments that used Aviary, which is sadly going in a different direction from giving away cool web based media editing tools for free, to GIMP, which is still free but not web based.
Here's one picture from five that I drew that the students may choose to color on the computer.

The U.S. Government has now officially denied the existence of mermaids. I'm surprised they even had to waste time making a statement on something so universally accepted as bunk that Time-Life didn't even waste a Mysteries of the Unknown edition on it.
Anyways, I drew a mermaid picture today to use later as a coloring project for Digital Art.
Expect a color version soon.

Friday the 13th part 13th

I've never seen any of the old Friday the 13th movies (unless you count Jason X, which I know you don't),but from what I've been able to glean, Jason seems to be a holiday icon something akin to the Easter Bunny but with a more draconian view on premarital sex and that, like the Muppets, he once took Manhattan.
