Nockmaar

We did a fun mask project in class using cut paper and this was my example.
I was thinking of General Kael from "Willow", so named because of how scary kale is. Yes, that's a pretty dorky reference, but the kids thought it was just a cool looking skull.
I finished it off with some spray paint, which kids also think is cool.

Frenetic Phrenology

I doodled this on a Post-It on my desk. Now it's just sitting there, staring at me like a creep.

Grim Grinning Ghosts

Steps two and three in the Jack O' Lantern that alas, was not meant to be carved (my pumpkin was too short and squat for it).
The first is isolating the highlights from my initial sketch, the second is inverting them as the carved out negative areas.
Maybe next year.

Grim Grinning Ghost

This was the first step in a Jack O' Lantern design I ultimately didn't do because my pumpkin was too short and squat.

Brushes with Death

This is a painting I made on my iPod using a program called Brushes. I was just fooling around to try it out and wound up painting a skull.
How morbid!

Holy Ghost Rider

I was just jerkin' around with some Crayola and construction paper and wound up with this skull headed bishop guy. Kind of a Dark Ages black plague thing maybe?.

Hex Prize

Here's the final product. Like I said, I streamlined some stuff just to make it easier or in some cases better looking when I took the template and turned it into an Illustrator piece. I ultimately liked it and think I prefer using a combination of Photoshop and Illustrator best rather than either one on its own, as each has its strengths. The finished product wound up in an area show for Kalamazoo too, so that was nice.

Hex Factor

Here's my mock up that I assembled in Photoshop because Photoshop is a heck of a lot easier for me to work with, or at least it was at the time. I was just trying to get colors and composition finalized. There are a number of aspects of this, like the spider webbing, that I eliminated or changed for the final product to either streamline the design or simply to make it easier for me to finish.

Here's some animal skulls I assembled for the background.

Waterskuller

I was filling in for a class doing watercolor and learning wet on wet technique and while they were on lunch break I doodled this neat-o skull.
