Killer Klowns from Outer Space

I gave an assignment option for our unit on the concept of line that dealt with the dying art of inking in illustration and animation which is being replaced more and more by digital processes.
After watching an interview with an inking artist about it, the students were to create a pencil drawing to trade with another student to ink each other's work.
Of course only one student chose this option, so they paired with me. I asked them what they wanted to ink and they said a scary clown, which I gave them.
Of course I have now digitally manipulated that pencil drawing, undermining my own assignment.

Sketchy looking character

This was a quick pencil sketch of some lady for part of a project example for my Digital Arts course.

You're The Man Now, Dog

This is a vector illustration I made of a dog as an example for my digital arts class.
It's a wild dog.
"Wild Dog" by the way also happens to be the name my fanfic that crosses over the John Travolta of "Wild Hogs" with the John Travolta of "Old Dogs." I was going to go with "Old Hog," but that just seemed to demean the fine work of Mr. Travolta.

Marxist Propaganda

Here's another example I made for the digital arts class. The idea was to use the Andy Warhol model of the celebrity portrait print along with vector drawing to explore value, hue and saturation of color.
It's Groucho Marx.
He and I share the same birthday!

Color Puff

Here's another example for class using Aviary. It took that dragon drawing I had already made and put it in multiply mode to color it, which is a pretty neat trick if you ask me.

Vector Lobster

I haven't posted in a while, pretty much because instead of having a job where I can sit and doodle while showing a movie or something I now actually get to teach pretty much all the time. But it's summer and I've got a bunch of examples I've been sitting on so why not put them out there.

This first one is from the Digital Arts class I started in the Spring. We used the free online programs of aviary.com
and this image used their vector program called Raven. It's a pretty nice program and if you're intimidated by more robust vector programs like Adobe Illustrator I'd say that it's pretty user friendly.
The picture is a lobster. I think it turned out all right.
