A poster for one of our upcoming theme days for school. Students worked on the other days but nobody took Monday.
I had to draw it pretty quickly, and for something I turned out in less than ten minutes I think it looks pretty good.

I did this back in 2001.
It was for some Star Wars fanart contest thingy I think, but who can remember. It's Prismacolor markers and colored pencils.

Happy Beardaversary!

About a year ago my Dad's beard turned 40 years old and we threw it a party. This was for the card everybody signed.
All the men invited to the party were encouraged to grow their beards out as well and I've been too lazy to shave since. The other day my sister, who sees me on a fairly regular basis, said to me "Wait a second, you have a beard?" Either it looks so natural on my face as to be unnoticeable or my head has a reality distortion field that obscures my actual facial features. I'm going with the latter, since it also explains why my staff photo at work wound up looking so terrible.

X-9 from Planet Y vs. The Skunk Ape

This was fun time filler number three- create a monster and an alien and put them in a fight. The movie was "Sense and Sensibility," or maybe "Monsters vs. Aliens." Either way really.

SNIPE!

This was freebie filler activity number two- design your own undiscovered creature, or snipe, and put it in an exotic environment. The movie was "Up."

Robot Staring Contest

It's the end of the term and a lot of students are done with everything so I came up with an easy filler activity where we would watch a movie and then they would design their own characters. environments, etc. This first one was design a couple of robots and have them interact, the movie was "Wall-E" and yes, that's the soap pump robot from the other day.

Red Devil Racism

It's true. I got a red pen and immediately thought "devil." How ironic that I would draw a devil as the embodiment of evil, when the true evil was my own discriminatory prejudice against devils.

Example four of four! The Green one was to represent elnightenment. It's a combination of techniques.

White Candlebox

This is example three of four out of the series. The White one was to represent truth and so it's based on observation.

Blue Candlebox

This is the second of four drawings in a series I did with students of monochromatic symbolsim relating to levels of truth and perception. This is the blue one and being the color to symbolize perception of truth it is based on a photograph. It depicts something we cannot actually see long enough to accurately capture with the naked eye - the flickering lighting of a candle- and so we must rely on the how the camera sees the world, which of course is fundamentally different from our own perception.

Red Candlebox

This is part one in a four part series I did with students. The idea was to create four drawings using different techniques with specific monochromatic color schemes each representing a different level of understanding of truth with red being imagination, blue being perception, white being truth, and green being enlightenment. This is the red one meaning imagination where we drew from memory and invention.

Apples Dos and Don'ts

This drawing was made as an example for students for what to do and not do. I was seeing a lot of weirdo X-Ray negative apples before I drew this to show the difference between using tone as a subtractive rather than as an additive. Okay, so I still saw a lot of them afterward too. At least I drew a pretty okay apple.
