I'm doing a special editorial cartooning lesson with another class from another school and we had just finished our brainstorming session and were getting to go around the class to share our ideas. I drew the POTUS on the board to spur those who didn't want to share into speaking up.

In retrospect, I think I tried to cram in too much into it and it should have stuck with just the NSA or just drones, because while the NSA has fed data to the CIA drone program the NSA doesn't actually use drones themselves..... yet.

For over a thousand years, Roman conquerors returning from the wars enjoyed the honor of a triumph - a tumultuous parade.
In the procession came trumpeters and musicians and strange animals from the conquered territories, together with carts laden with treasure and captured armaments.
The conqueror rode in a triumphal chariot, the dazed prisoners walking in chains before him. Sometimes his children, robed in white, stood with him in the chariot, or rode the trace horses.
A slave stood behind the conqueror, holding a golden crown, and whispering in his ear a warning:
that all glory is fleeting.

Napoleon Complex

I doodled Napoleon on the board, thought he looked pretty good, then realized I had no real purpose for having him up there, and promptly erased him. Ce la vie.

It was supposed to be King Brian from Darby O'Gill and the Little People, but I think he looks a bit like Bob Hoskins instead.

The light has gone out of my life. X

Teddy also says "The light has gone out of my life. X" to Valentine's Day. 

That's the entry in his journal for February 14, 1884, the day both his wife and mother died within hours of each other, one from typhoid fever and the other from kidney failure two days after giving birth.

So if you had a rough Valentine's Day, just remember Teddy Roosevelt.

Also, all those cutesy teddy bears given out as Valentine gifts seem really bittersweet now, don't they?

Based on my attendance so far today it looks like most of my students have decided to observe the holiday by skipping class.

Fearful Symmetry

I did an example of facial symmetry on the board- drawing one half and then mirror copying it for the other- then flipped it in Photoshop to check. I was off in a few places. Around her hair mostly. But I still think it was a pretty good example, even if she does look a little creepy.

Santa Claus is Watching You

I wanted to give the kids the impression that Santa was watching them, even if my back was turned to them, kind of like those cardboard cutouts of police cars.
