Merry CrystMeth

Thank you, +Jaakan Page-Wood for stating what should have been obvious to me about my befuddled, emaciated Santa doodle.

Skinny Santa says what

A skinny befuddled looking Santa I doodled then colored in GIMP.
He looks like he should be saying something, but I couldn't think of anything good. If you've got something good that Skinny Santa should be saying leave it as a comment.

Midnight Clear

A tiny demo (about 3"x5") for using a masking agent and salt with watercolor paint for art class. It's some snowy trees.

Lucky 13

The proposed cover for the 2013 Yearbook. A black cat (the school mascot is a panther) crossing the path mixed with the year number and the whole 2012 Doomsday thing was the inspiration.
And a bit of Ocean's 11.

Happy Halloween

The Jack O' Lantern I carved this year. It's like a doofy looking cat or something.

Apple II

Still another apple, this one Prismacolor colored pencil on black paper.

Grim Grinning Ghosts

Steps two and three in the Jack O' Lantern that alas, was not meant to be carved (my pumpkin was too short and squat for it).
The first is isolating the highlights from my initial sketch, the second is inverting them as the carved out negative areas.
Maybe next year.

Grim Grinning Ghost

This was the first step in a Jack O' Lantern design I ultimately didn't do because my pumpkin was too short and squat.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space

I gave an assignment option for our unit on the concept of line that dealt with the dying art of inking in illustration and animation which is being replaced more and more by digital processes.
After watching an interview with an inking artist about it, the students were to create a pencil drawing to trade with another student to ink each other's work.
Of course only one student chose this option, so they paired with me. I asked them what they wanted to ink and they said a scary clown, which I gave them.
Of course I have now digitally manipulated that pencil drawing, undermining my own assignment.

Fairy Oddmother

Another version of the fairy, this one less purple, more monochromatic.

Tiptoe through the tulips

A color version of the fairy.
Pretty!

But a little heavy on gimmicky filters and brushes maybe.

Hooperball

A design I made for the school basketball team T-shirt. It's my first real time using Inkscape seriously, which kind of made me long for my old free Vector program.
The first is my version, the second is the revised version.

Mess with the bull, get the horns

Another drawing for students to digitally color. It's a Minotaur wailing on some poor sap.

The Wiz

Another image for the kids to color on the computer. But in this case I colored it.
They're all fantasy type characters so they can do outlandish color schemes and have it still fit.
Also because I'm a bit nerdy and that's what I think is fun to draw.

"You know how I know fairies exist? I'm a fairy." - a five year old girl

I'm in the process of updating some old assignments that used Aviary, which is sadly going in a different direction from giving away cool web based media editing tools for free, to GIMP, which is still free but not web based.
Here's one picture from five that I drew that the students may choose to color on the computer.

Under the Sea

A color version of that mermaid drawing using Aviary's Phoenix image editor.

Dismissed as Coincidence

http://oceanservice.noaa.gov/facts/mermaids.html
The U.S. Government has now officially denied the existence of mermaids. I'm surprised they even had to waste time making a statement on something so universally accepted as bunk that Time-Life didn't even waste a Mysteries of the Unknown edition on it.
Anyways, I drew a mermaid picture today to use later as a coloring project for Digital Art.
Expect a color version soon.

Hasenfeffer

Another Draw Something doodle.
I think I should point out that I play on my iPhone, not a tablet.

Phair Play

Another series of notebook doodles from class. The one at the top wound up looking a little like Liz Phair I think. Or maybe Tom Petty. Or maybe Bruce Spence. Or maybe Bruce Spence playing Tom Petty doing a cover of a Liz Phair song.
As for the others, I don't know...maybe bald Pee Wee Herman at the bottom?

Vested or Vexed?

Another notebook doodle. Can't tell if drawing looks intrigued...or confused.

Youth in Asia

Another doodle from my notebook made during an eight hour Saturday grad class.

A Study in Demographics

I'm taking a couple grad classes and an eight hour Saturday class session means lots of lecture time. And of course lecture time means doodling.
A doodle from my notebook.

May the 4th be with you!

I did this back in 2001.
It was for some Star Wars fanart contest thingy I think, but who can remember. It's Prismacolor markers and colored pencils.

Begun the Penny Wars have

My school does a yearly fundraiser called Penny Wars, which, being a nerd, I associate with Star Wars.

Friday the 13th part 13th

I've never seen any of the old Friday the 13th movies (unless you count Jason X, which I know you don't),but from what I've been able to glean, Jason seems to be a holiday icon something akin to the Easter Bunny but with a more draconian view on premarital sex and that, like the Muppets, he once took Manhattan.

Super Brainy Monkey and Friend

A couple characters from a story that was an offshoot of my old college newspaper comic strip that I never quite finished.

CS3

I just got the beta of Photoshop CS6. I haven't gotten to play around with it much yet, so I thought I'd post an old picture I made back when I first got CS3.
