Many Sides

A portrait example from class. It's a former student who didn't use the picture I took of him for his self portrait project several years ago so this year I finally decided to use it. He kind of looks like a skinhead, but as far as I remember him he basically hated everyone equally. 

Helper Skeleton

An example painting for class on color. Based off an old publicity still of Sharon Tate. I wanted to go for a look that was somewhere on the border between psychedelic sixties and deep few days old bruising.
(The blog post title was supposed to be "Helter Skelter" but autocorrect had other ideas)

The Dye is Cast

This painting is supposed to be an example for class for a creative way to do a color wheel.  

Looking at it now though I realize it looks like I made a poster for lesbian pride.

Pugly

An example for Art Class. The assignment was to pick a breed of dog and three colors and is essentially a paint mixing assessment.

Coney Dog

An unorthodox color wheel example for art class.
Sadly this cute lil  guy's bichromatic vision lacks the third cone necessary to see the colors of his own rainbow wig.

Chasing the Dragon

A group project we did at school where each person made a section of a long dragon with squares of cardboard and some tempera paint. These were mine. Not the best thing I've ever done, but for whipped off on cardboard with kids paints in about 25 minutes I think it looks okay.

Monkeyvision 3D 2

I finally made some use of that monkey stencil I made a while back. I plan another pass at it with some black and white.

It's 2012. Do you know WHAT your children are?

This is an example from a collaborative lesson I did through Education for the Arts that involved painting propaganda posters.

If you're nerdy enough, you probably already know the poster's inspiration, and if not I don't think I want to reveal how nerdy I am by mentioning it.

Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the show?

This is a tempera painting of Abraham Lincoln I made a while ago based off of a marble bust I saw at Ford's Theater in D.C.

I really liked how it was the younger, vibrant rail splitter Abe.

Eggscuses

This is an egg based tempera painting I made at a workshop on the Wyeth family where we all tried out one of Andrew Wyeth's mediums of choice. The process kind of reminded me of dying Easter eggs mixed with making french toast, but you know, painting.

It might look like this painting kind of sucks, but it was made on a tiny 3" x 4" piece of paper and painted with a medium that dries out within seconds and I only had the three primary colors to work with plus it was my first time using it, which is all really just a bunch of excuses for why it isn't very good.

On the plus side though, it does kind of look like the German mechanic guy who gets splattered by the flying wing in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
